Why does my HDMI connection keep dropping at 120hz?

Hey everyone, I recently bought a new Samsung TV that supports 4K at 120hz. I hooked it up to my computer with a 4070ti, using an HDMI 2.1 cable that should support 4K at 120hz. Everything works fine at 60hz, but when I switch to 120hz, I get a ‘Lost connection to HDMI’ message. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

How long is the cable?

It’s 10 meters.

That’s probably the issue, assuming it’s a regular passive cable. There’s no official max length for HDMI cables, but standard 2.1 cables usually can’t handle the full 2.1 speed for more than 2-3 meters. If they’re well-made, maybe up to 4-5 meters. For 10 meters, you’ll really need an optical HDMI cable or one with active signal boosting. It’s frustrating when manufacturers label these 10m cables as 2.1 4K 120Hz when they can’t deliver that.

That’s a bummer. Thanks for the info. Guess I’ll have to stick with 60hz for now. Cheers.

Do you think a DisplayPort cable with an HDMI converter to the TV would work?

DisplayPort cables have similar length limitations to HDMI, so I doubt a regular 10m DP cable would work any better.
