My screen shows a battery and won’t turn on… what’s going on?

I’m 60 years old, and my son recently showed me how to use this forum. My computer screen has a white battery icon on a black background, and I can’t figure out what’s happening. Is something wrong?

It sounds like your computer is either a laptop or a tablet, and the battery is charging. Try pressing the power button to turn it on. If it doesn’t start, make sure it’s plugged in properly. Let me know if this helps.

This whole post is so sweet. Love seeing everyone help out!

I usually get frustrated when there’s not much detail in posts like this, but I can’t help but love how this turned out. It’s wonderful to see people stepping out of their comfort zones to learn something new. Glad you found a solution!

The screen you’re describing usually means your computer needs to charge. Plug it in, and wait a few minutes before trying to turn it back on. If it doesn’t work after charging, the battery or charger might need checking.

Glad to hear you got it working! For future reference, most laptops show a small battery icon on the screen when the battery is running low. On Mac, it’s in the top right; on Windows, it’s in the bottom right. When it starts getting low, just plug it in before it shuts down. Hope that helps!
