Mic splitter problem… I can’t talk but can hear?

I’m using a mic splitter, and every time I try to talk, it doesn’t work. I can hear audio just fine, but when I do a mic test on Discord, my headset shows up as an output device but nothing appears for input. Sometimes it works if I sit perfectly still, but if I move even a little, it stops working again. I’ve already tried reinstalling the drivers. I’m on Windows 10. What can I do to fix this?

Can you share the exact splitter you’re using?

It’s the UGREEN Headphone Splitter 3.5mm Audio Stereo Y Splitter Aux Extension Cable Male to Female Dual Headphone Jack Adapter for Earphone Compatible with iPhone Samsung iPad Tablet Laptop, Black.

@Arthur
That splitter isn’t made for microphones. It just splits one audio signal into two so two people can listen at the same time. What headset are you using? I’ll help you find the right one.

Oh, my bad… wrong one. Let me check.

@Arthur

Can you grab the link from your purchase history and post it here? That’ll save me some time.

@Arthur
Looks like a lot of people are saying the mic part doesn’t work. Tons of reviews mention it being dead on arrival or breaking quickly. You could try exchanging it, but it seems pretty unreliable.

@Caelan
Thanks for the help. Do you have any recommendations for a better mic splitter?

What’s your current headset and the model of your laptop? If it’s a desktop, let me know your motherboard model.

@Caelan
Here’s the motherboard I use: ASRock > Z87 Pro3. My headset is this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hyperx-cloud-stinger-2-core-wired-gaming-headset-for-ps4-and-ps5-white/6582320.p?skuId=6582320.
