Is this RAM causing the crashes?

My boyfriend’s new PC has been acting up with frequent crashes during games. He’s been tinkering with BIOS settings, but it keeps leading to blue screens with ‘memory error’ messages. He’s tried tweaking other settings too (don’t know which ones), but nothing’s fixed it. He’s thinking of buying new RAM, but isn’t totally sure that’s the problem. Any tips? I’d love to help him out, but I’m not as tech-savvy as he is.

For accurate help with the crashes, you’ll need to grab the dump files created by the blue screens. They’re saved in C:\Windows\Minidump.

If you can access the PC in normal mode or Safe Mode, copy the Minidump folder to the desktop, zip it, and upload it to a file-sharing site like catbox.moe or mediafire.com. If there aren’t any dump files, follow this guide to set up Windows to create small memory dumps in the future. Having multiple dump files helps in diagnosing the issue.

If you need more help, let me know!

Try running a memory diagnostic tool to test the RAM for issues. Sometimes recent driver or software updates can also create conflicts, so double-check those. If all else fails, reinstalling Windows from scratch might be worth considering.

Funny how you’re the one coming here for advice while he’s already looking to spend money on new RAM. Maybe you’re the tech-savvy one in this situation!

When the error mentions memory, it’s referring to the RAM. RAM is like the short-term memory of a computer and is heavily used while gaming. If only one RAM stick is faulty, he could replace just that one, but it has to match the specs of the original.

He could also try reseating the RAM (taking it out and putting it back in), though it might not fix the issue. Buying a new set is a solid plan since it’s likely to solve the problem.

Thanks for explaining this! Makes a lot more sense now :joy:
