Can you split a hard drive for both PC and Xbox?

I have a 4TB Seagate external hard drive and was wondering if I could split it so half works for my PC and the other half for my Xbox. Is this possible? If it is, how would I go about doing it?

Honestly, it’s kind of a strange idea, but yeah, it’s possible.

Yes, you can do that. It’s called partitioning.

If I partition it, can I have two different formats on the same drive?

Yes, it’ll show up as two separate drives, and they can each have a different format.

You can definitely do that. I’ve got one drive with Linux on one partition and Windows on another, so it works the same way.

Yep, totally doable. Just partition the drive. You might already have multiple partitions on it, like a Windows recovery partition or something like that. With 4TB, you can easily split the largest partition in half if you want.

You can split a hard drive into two by creating partitions. But I don’t think you can use different formats on the same drive for Xbox and PC. Even if the Xbox could read a partitioned drive, it would probably only work for non-Series X games.

@Aiden
So it’s possible in theory?

In theory, yes. But when you plug it into the Xbox, it’ll probably ask you to format the whole drive, so it’s not really practical.

Got it, makes sense.
