Anyone know how to change sound recording options on iPhone 16 models?

I was messing around with the camera settings on my iPhone 16, and it seems like Spatial Audio is the default for videos. Pretty cool, but I didn’t realize you could also switch to Stereo or Mono. Anyone else tried changing these? Wondering if there’s a noticeable difference.

Anyone know where to find the option to turn off that wind noise thing? I couldn’t spot it the first time I looked.

Settings > Camera > Record Sound. It’s in there. Just toggle off Wind Noise Reduction.

Yeah, Spatial Audio makes things sound super immersive. I played a video back, and it felt like I was right there. If you switch to Stereo, it just splits between left and right ears.

Wait, what does immersive mean here? Like, does it make a big difference when you listen with headphones?

@Vesper
Yeah, especially with good headphones. It’s like the sound comes from all around you instead of just left and right. Kinda like being at a live concert.

IDK if anyone noticed, but the wind noise reduction is on by default with Spatial Audio and Stereo. I had to dig through settings to turn it off.

I saw that too! I had no idea it was even a thing until I found it in the settings. Guess it’s useful if you’re recording outside, but it messes with the audio sometimes.

FYI, if you don’t need Spatial Audio, Stereo works just fine. I switched to it because it drains less battery when recording long videos.

Oh, I didn’t think battery would be affected. Thanks for the heads-up! Do you think it’s noticeable if you go with Mono?

@Phoenix
Mono just sends the same sound to both ears, so it’s kinda meh for videos. But if you’re recording voice memos or podcasts, it works fine.

Btw, anyone else miss the simpler days when phones just recorded in Stereo by default? These options are cool, but it’s a lot to keep track of.

Lol, for real. I feel like I need a manual just to use the camera now.

Haha, same. But hey, at least now we get better sound quality… even if it’s a bit much sometimes.
