I just got a week-old ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and 16GB of RAM, running Windows 11. I’m kind of a beginner but know a bit about computers. I keep getting a BSOD with the ‘unexpected kernel mode trap’ error.
I updated all my drivers but it didn’t help.
I do a lot of heavy browsing with Google Docs, YouTube, and 15-20 tabs open, but my RAM usage is low.
I ran a minidump file through WinDbg and here’s what I found:
HYPERVISOR_ERROR (20001)
The hypervisor has encountered a fatal error.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000011
Arg2: 0000000000223fd6
Arg3: 0000000000001005
Arg4: ffffe70001605960
Can you upload the dump files? They are essential for us to give a more accurate analysis of the BSOD.
If you can boot into Windows normally or in Safe Mode, go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check for any dump files. If you have any, zip the folder and upload it to a file-sharing site like catbox.moe or mediafire.com (Reddit blocks file hosts sometimes).
We typically need more than one dump file to look for patterns, so please upload whatever you have. If you only have one file, follow this guide to create more: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5560-configure-windows-10-create-minidump-bsod.html
Is that the only dump file? Usually, we need at least five to spot a pattern when the cause isn’t clear. Can you zip the whole Minidump folder so we can look at all the dump files?

Sure, I can copy the whole folder, but that’s the only dump file I could find…
You’ve had more than one BSOD, right? The ‘UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP’ error should have created multiple dump files. Maybe the crashes didn’t generate them every time, but at least two should have.
@Elianaliza
Yeah, there were 4-5 crashes, but only one file. It’s strange, I don’t remember how many of the crashes generated BSODs, but I’m sure at least two of them did.
