Hello, Liz Campbell. No, Instagram cannot determine when a phone takes a screenshot.
Yeah, that notification only happens with Snapchat. But I personally think maybe they should find a way of letting us know, especially with the Direct Messages some of us be wildin’ in the DMs we don’t want to ever imagine someone’s sharing our ‘DMscapedes’
Currently, Instagram does not notify users when you take screenshots of their posts or stories, unlike some other platforms that notify for disappearing messages or screenshots.
In the past, around February 2018, Instagram experimented with a feature that would display a shutter icon next to usernames if someone took a screenshot of their story. However, this feature was poorly received and caused user frustration, leading Instagram to abandon it.
