Why won’t my Bush TV play videos from my USB?

I tried playing a video from my USB on my Bush TV, but it just says “unsupported file.” Any advice on how to fix this?

Honestly, just get an ONN 4K streaming box for around $50. You can hook it up to your TV and play the video from your USB through that. Bush TVs are known to have issues like this.

MP4 is just a container, not the actual codec used for the video or audio. You need to check which codecs (like h264 for video or AAC for audio) your TV supports within MP4 files.

How can I figure out what codecs my TV supports and make sure the MP4 matches those?

@Bevin
Check the TV manual. It should list all the supported codecs.

I bought the TV second-hand and can’t find the manual online. Is there a way to create a test MP4 with all possible codecs to see which ones work, or is that too complicated?

File extensions like MP4, AVI, or MKV are just containers. What matters is the compression format used for the video and audio inside the file. For example, your TV might not support HEVC 10-bit video or AC3 audio.

@Umbrielle
I wasn’t just renaming the file. I used cloudconvert to process it. Does that actually change the compression format, or was I just renaming it without realizing? How can I find out what compression formats my TV supports, or is there a way to experiment with different formats?
