Why is my phone dying so quickly all of a sudden?

Hey guys, I’ve got a Google Pixel 7a, and it’s only been a year since I got it. At first, the battery lasted forever and charged fine. But recently, my phone has been draining super fast, and sometimes it shuts off even when the battery isn’t empty. Just this morning, I left with 87% and in 15 minutes, it was dead. Then an hour ago, it died at 40%, and when I plugged it in, it was still at 40%. I haven’t installed any new apps or clicked on anything suspicious. Buying a new phone isn’t an option right now, so I really need some advice.

Yeah, battery issues are pretty common with the whole Pixel 7 series. Yours seems like a pretty bad case of a defective battery, but even with normal use, the battery can degrade quickly. I had the regular Pixel 7 for almost a year, and it was my first expensive phone, so I took really good care of it… but about 10 months in, I was only getting half the battery life I had when it was new.

Sounds like your battery is defective.

Try doing a factory reset on your phone. It might help.

Turn off fast charging and super fast charging. The battery should improve after a few charge cycles.

Download Accubattery to check your battery health and try using normal charging for a while.

You could try using a battery case, but it probably won’t work as you expect.

You could buy a power bank, strap it to the back of your phone, and use that to charge your phone constantly.

Check if your signal strength is weak. In some areas of my house, the signal drops and makes the battery drain faster. Also, I tried using the nighttime mode, and even though it makes the screen black and white, it seemed to use more battery.

If none of the other suggestions work, you could go to a repair shop and get the battery replaced for around $75. I did that with my old iPhone, and it made a huge difference.

Check which apps are using up your battery. Some apps can drain a lot of power without you even knowing.

You could replace the battery at an authorized service center. Is your phone still under warranty? I ask because in India, we can get an additional one-year warranty after the first one expires.
