Why does my PC crash during games? Is it my RAM? Help!

Hey everyone, I’m having issues with my computer freezing sometimes and crashing during games. When I check the Event Viewer, I see this error: “Nvidia OpenGL Driver Ran out of memory.”

Every time I try to restart Windows, my PC just hangs, and the motherboard shows a yellow LED. I tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers using DDU and NVcleanstall, but no luck.

I read somewhere on this forum that replacing RAM fixed this issue for someone else. So, I ran a MemTest86, and I got 60 errors. Here’s a summary of the results:

  • Total errors: 60
  • Failing tests: Block move and Moving Inversions
  • System info: 16GB DDR5 RAM, Ryzen 5 7600 CPU, MSI PRO B650M-P motherboard.

Should I replace my RAM? Could something else be causing this? I’d appreciate any advice!

Sounds like bad RAM. You should replace it.

I think you’re right. Also, @AXY, you should get a kit with two RAM sticks instead of just one. That way, you can take advantage of dual-channel performance.

Thanks! I’ll do that. It’s frustrating because I just built this PC two months ago, and now I’m already dealing with problems.

That sucks, but it happens sometimes. Check out this link from Nvidia about OpenGL memory errors. It might help:

Try scanning your system here: Crucial System Scanner | Memory Upgrade Scanner | Crucial | Crucial.com. It can tell you compatible RAM options.

If your RAM is under warranty, most companies will replace it if you send them the MemTest86 results. I did this with Corsair, and they sent me a replacement within a week.
