I’ve been using Discord for a while now, but I recently noticed that some of my friends have a little yellow crescent moon next to their names, and their status says “Idle.” I’m a bit confused about what this means exactly. Are they online but just not active? Or is it something else entirely?
Would appreciate any insights or explanations on what the “Idle” status signifies on Discord. Thanks.
Hello Peter, On Discord, “Idle” indicates that the app is open on your device, but you haven’t interacted with it for about 5-10 minutes. Here’s what “Idle” means:
Still Online: You’re logged in and connected to Discord. Not Actively Using: No recent clicks, typing, or scrolling. Similar to AFK: It signals that you might not be available for immediate interaction, akin to “Away From Keyboard” (AFK).
How “Idle” Status Works:
Automatic: Discord sets your status to Idle after inactivity. Manual Option: You can manually set your status to Idle. Visual Indicator: An idle user icon appears as a yellow crescent moon next to your username.
On Discord, being “idle” means you left the app open but haven’t used it in a while. It’s like saying “AFK” (Away From Keyboard) - you’re still technically online but not actively checking messages.
Idle traditionally serves as an indicator you’ve walked away from your PC and are unable to respond to anyone. Besides that, yes it’s functionally useless to the end user beyond a basic “I’m not here right now” indicator.
Hello guys! Ok the term “Idle” on Discord describes a user’s current presence status, which lets other users know that they may not be instantly responding to messages or notifications. It is set automatically by Discord after a user has not used the application for a predetermined amount of time, or when they are away from their keyboard.
On Discord, “Idle” denotes a user status indicating inactivity for a period. When a user is Idle, it usually means they haven’t interacted with Discord or their computer recently.
