So I’m trying to figure out what’s best for our small hotel. Right now, we have 100 Mbps internet with access points on each floor. I think upgrading to 200 Mbps would fix our problems, but my partner thinks we should get a second 100 Mbps package for a different part of the hotel.
I feel like adding another package is overcomplicating things. If the router can handle a lot of devices, wouldn’t it just make sense to upgrade the speed? Or am I missing something here? Thanks for your advice.

How many people usually connect at once? Also, what brand is your router and the access points?
We can have up to 130 people at full capacity, though it’s not always that busy. The router is Huawei, and we use TP-Link access points because it’s what’s available here.

With that many users, it’s possible you’re maxing out the connection. If you go for two internet packages, you’d get the benefit of backup if one goes down. But to make that work smoothly, your router would need to handle combining the connections. You wouldn’t want two separate networks in the same hotel.
Are your router and access points built to handle this many users?

Yeah, they are built for heavy use. That’s why I think just doubling the speed to 200 Mbps should be enough.
Upgrading the speed could help, but 200 Mbps for 130 people might still be a stretch, especially if guests are streaming videos or downloading large files.
@Elianaliza
Only 100-200 Mbps for up to 130 people? That’s rough. I usually recommend at least 50 Mbps per person in setups like this, more if there’s heavy usage. For a hotel, I’d aim for 1 Gbps or higher, maybe even a backup connection too.
