My first race is in Seattle this weekend.
Will they only have water available? It looks like it might be 60 degrees and rainy.
Do they offer electrolytes or sports drinks? I’m trying to figure out how to bring some since I’m running the 21k. I want to plan ahead.
Do you have any tips? I think I’ll start with a shirt and just throw it away afterward.
Is it a bad idea to bring a hydration pack since it might get ruined? If it’s okay, I’ll bring it and put snacks inside.
I’ve run 13 miles on paths and pavement, so I don’t think the distance will be a problem.
It’s absolutely not a bad idea to bring a hydration pack. In fact I’d say for you it’s absolutely necessary if you haven’t run one before. There is water on course but no electrolytes or food - you need to be responsible for these things yourself.
Do NOT “toss out” a shirt on the course. What you start with, you must finish with. Tuck the shirt in your pack but do not leave gear anywhere on course.
Bring a pack- there will be water on the course but having your own is safe. For the Beast and Supers I’ll bring water- the sprints no. I put electrolytes in my hydration pack and drink course water. A good hydration pack will have a little space- a thermal layer is nice early in the morning and stuffing it into the pack later. I’ve run Seattle’s beast 4? Times and this is a lower temp weekend.
Pack the licky/chewies you orefer- assume no food provided on the courseexcept a banana at the end, some water, and a sponsor drink.
My personal recommendations.
If it’s your first 21K bring a hydration vest.
Carry your own electrolytes. Maybe some salt sticks or some goos with electrolytes.
You will need some calories. They don’t provide much nutrition, maybe a banana if they do it.
Agree with this. Also, 13 pavement/path miles are not the same thing as Spartan miles. Do not underestimate the distance.
I’d rather bring my pack and not need it then not bring it and wish I had it. I’ll be there doing the beast and have my pack and snacks. Better safe then sorry.
Experience doing 13 miles only help so much. With Seattle being the Pan-American championship expect soft/loose ground to slow your pace and steep elevation climbs are a guarantee
Oh I thought it said a pretty glad course. Hm
Mostly yes, but there are a few hills mixed in
