How Can I Resolve the “We Couldn’t Send an SMS to Your Number” Error on WhatsApp?

Since July 5, 2024, I’ve been unable to verify my WhatsApp account due to the error message “We couldn’t send an SMS to your number. Please check your number and try again in 1 hour.” I’ve tried various solutions, including checking the APN settings, disabling WiFi during verification, restarting my phone, reinstalling WhatsApp, performing a factory reset, and contacting WhatsApp Support (without a response). I also tried verifying on a different device. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update: After 1 week and 2 days, I finally reached WhatsApp Support (they only reply to the initial email thread) and received a reset for the verification process, which allowed me to get the verification call.

Tips:

  • Ensure you can receive calls and SMS from other numbers.
  • Consider the possibility that frequent reinstallation might have led to a ban. If so, try using WhatsApp Plus (Anti-Ban version).
  • Note that contacting support with a rooted phone may include that information in your support request, potentially affecting your support response.

I’m experiencing the same issue with my new unlocked Honor 8. The error message appears so quickly that it seems like WhatsApp isn’t even trying to send a text or make a call.

But then, a friend of mine also advised me that If I’m using a VPN, WhatsApp won’t be able to make calls or send SMS. He asked me to try disconnecting from the VPN and then attempt again. I haven’t tried it yet but let’s do it so now see if it works.

If your device isn’t able to send or receive messages, try these steps: Get the most recent WhatsApp version. Consider updating the operating system on your phone. Ensure that you have an internet connection. Give your gadget a restart. Verify that you have finished the phone number verification process.
