Can I cast my Android to my Samsung TV for free?

I don’t even know what model of Samsung TV I have, but it’s really bad at connecting to Wi-Fi, even though the router is just in the next room over.

If your TV has Chromecast built in, then yes, it’s possible. But without knowing the exact model of your TV, it’s hard to help. You should check the menus to see if there’s an option for casting or screen mirroring. Also, if your TV has Wi-Fi Direct, you might be able to cast even without Wi-Fi. You should figure out why your TV isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi first, that might solve your problem.

I tried casting like a year ago but couldn’t get it to work. Also, we tried to fix the Wi-Fi issue before, and my dad said Samsung support told him the TV has to be in the same room as the router. Two questions: 1) If I figure out the model of the TV, will that help? 2) Do I need to buy a Chromecast?

@Adda
If your TV has built-in Chromecast or a similar function, you wouldn’t need to buy anything extra. But yes, you’ll need to find out the model of your TV. The model number should be on the back or side, or you can check the information menu in the settings.

@Cal
Thanks for the help, but I’m just giving up on this. If it’s possible, it’s probably harder than winning against the best chess player blindfolded, and probably not even worth the hassle.

If looking up the model number seems like too much work for you, then yeah, it’s probably going to be too much work to fix.

You can definitely cast from your Android phone to a Samsung TV. There are plenty of apps available on the Play Store for this. Could you confirm the model numbers of both your TV and phone?

You can use Google Chromecast, a relatively cheap device that plugs in and works for casting.

It likely depends on the model, but it’s definitely possible. Check if your phone has a feature called ‘Screen Mirror.’ If so, that’s your way to go. It works with Wi-Fi, so as long as your TV is a smart TV connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone, it should work. You should be able to find this option in the settings or in the quick settings when you swipe down from the top (I’m not the best at explaining this haha). It essentially shares your phone’s screen with the TV.

I can cast pictures from my Samsung Android to my Samsung TV. Once it’s connected, I can stream to it.

Try using the VLC app. Download it on both your TV and phone.
