Can I add a song to a reel video in a different or app or does it have to be added through Instagram?

Hey guysm I have been updating my Instagram reels with videos for a while now. In certain cases, I upload the video to Instagram first, then use the platform to add the music. I use my laptop to edit more complex videos with the music playing, then I post them to reels.

One of my Instagram reel videos received a copyright infringement alert today. Really, what the heck? It is not my song, no shit. Instagram reels are used. Any song may be used as long as it is uploaded to Instagram reels, right? Or not?

You could try this: get an MP3 of the song and add it to your video using any video editor app. Then upload the edited video as a reel and rename the audio from “Original Audio” to the song’s title.

You are right. I did not think about changing the name of the edited video from “original sound” to the actual name of the song and artist. I’ve never had a video flagged on IG Reels, so I didn’t consider it. But it’s a good idea to try. It’s still giving credit to the artist.

I didn’t do this, and I should have been clearer in my post. What I meant was that videos I edit directly on Instagram are fine, but those I edit outside Instagram with a song get flagged.

Yes, this is probably the best approach. I created an app that makes this easier. It might be useful
