Big files not decompressing … Anyone know what’s going wrong?

Hey, I’m having an issue where files around 1GB or larger won’t decompress. I’ve tried different programs, reinstalled them, checked my disk, cleared the cache, and freed up space, but it still won’t work. The process just freezes at 10-15% without any error messages, and the program becomes unresponsive. I’m using Windows 11, have 140GB free out of 900GB, and my hard drive is NTFS formatted. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.

How long have you let it run for? Sometimes it can slow down if the program is trying to decompress a lot of small files.

Also, how old is the hard drive?

I’ve let it run for more than 20 minutes. The program slows down a lot, and this happens with multiple files. I’ve had the PC for 2 years, but this problem only started about two weeks ago.

@Junita
Wait, do you have a hard drive or an SSD? If it’s a hard drive, it could be dying since it’s slowing down. Does it happen with anything else? Like if you transfer a 1GB file from a flash drive to the hard drive?

@Adda
I use an SSD.

Ah, what SSD is it?

Have you had any other files getting corrupted? There are fake SSDs out there that overwrite old data, which can cause a lot of slowdowns when that happens.

Also, you should have about 15%-20% free space on the SSD. That might be an issue too.

@Adda
I use a Goodram PX500.
